Description

This unusual booklet presents a somewhat strange agricultural opportunity to its audience – the possibility of raising dairy cattle in remote Alaska. A clever intertwining of historiography, persuasive language, and entertaining narrative makes for a compelling read. The centerfold pictorial map presents cows in the same illustrated style as the local fauna, while a second single-page plan depicts the routes of famous 18th century voyagers from Bering to Clerke.

The pamphlet was compiled by Mildred Celia Letton of the University of Chicago. Illustrations (including, presumably, the maps) by Dwight Mutchler. Originally copyrighted in 1945 by the National Dairy Council of Chicago. This is a later reprinting, dated to 1961.
