Pianta Di Roma e Dell’Esposizione
$295.00
Richly illustrated plan of Rome for the 1911 International Exhibition of Art.
Description
This oblique perspective of Rome is oriented with south at the top, which allows the artist to highlight some of the buildings of the 1911 International Art Exhibition in the foreground. This was one of two World’s Fairs held in Italy that year, the other, in Turin, having a more science and industry focus.
Architecture in The Eternal City is the focus of the image, rather than art. Building profiles in exaggerated sizes dominate the map, while various rail lines connecting them are shown in red. Contemporary Italian advertisements flank the lower corner of the image and cover the entirety of the verso. The map was drawn by Ludovico Beranger and printed by Fratelli Capaccini in Rome.
