“From a plan prepared by Berkeley Police for an attack on the Black Panther Party’s national headquarters in the Berkeley ghetto. The entire plan is shown in these pages in unaltered photocopy form.” – pg 11.

This alarming compilation purportedly shows an organized strike by the Berkeley Police on the Black Panther Party’s Shattuck Street Headquarters. Transcripts of the assault plan are accompanied by handwritten notes and a detailed map. Here can be seen the position of six different squads comprising fourteen men, with the assault squad armed with three Thompson sub-machine guns. Patrol cars are blocking the nearby intersections, while paddy wagons and ambulances wait nearby.

While the alleged operation may have been a ‘false flag’ to stir up distrust and fear among the Black Panther Party, the actions of the Chicago Police against Fred Hampton later that year would prove that overwhelming violence was an acceptable police response to the threat of racial equality. The story was issued in Vol. 1 No. 8 Issue 8 (September, 1969) of the Berkeley Tribe, published by the Red Mountain Tribe in Berkeley, California. The Classifieds Section is wild!
