Description
“Until 1961, Australia was entirely dependent on imports to satisfy its petroleum requirements” – Dr. H. Wopfner.
This detailed map of Australia and Papua New Guinea captures the momentum of the initial decade of the regions’ commercial hydrocarbon production. The discovery of the Moonie Oil Field in eastern Queensland in 1961 propelled Australia’s indigenous oil production into the 20th century.
Splashes of green show the extent of petroleum titles in force just six years later. Title numbers, claim holders, acreage, and expiration dates are listed on the right side. Published in Melbourne by the Petroleum Information Bureau (Australia) in 1967.
