Description
Known for its fossilized wood and colorful badlands, the Petrified Forest in Arizona was declared a National Park in 1962. This stylized map, presumably aimed at young visitors, shows the park about a decade later and highlights the primary roads between U.S. Highway 180 (lower left) and the Painted Desert Inn (upper right). In addition to showing transportation routes, the image presents an illustrated overview of the varied geographic features, wildlife, and more.
Created by Carl Bowman and published by the Petrified Forest Museum Association in 1980. A rubberstamp in the upper right indicates this example was sold in 1988.
