Combining medical advice with social pressure, this postwar poster encourages the audience to bathe regularly and wear deodorant (preferably, MUM brand). Twelve numbered boxes offer a basic overview of the perspiration process, including the pitfalls of body odor. “Offending through perspiration odor destroys charm and causes people to avoid one’s company instead of seeking it.” A cross-section of a human sweat gland adds scientific validity to the claims ‘Your Best Protection is a Good Deodorant.’
Published in 1946 by the Educational Services Department of Bristol-Myers Squibb. Issued to promote sales of MUM, one of the first commercially manufactured deodorants. A small tag at the top of the sheet indicates it was likely intended to be hung in a classroom.
