Description
“All visitors to the fair are cordially invited to visit the Pennsylvania Railroad Exhibit, which is one of the most complete and comprehensive illustrations of American railway development ever prepared.” [Text from verso].
Rand McNally produced several different maps of the grounds of the 1893 World’s Fair, held in Chicago’s Jackson Park to celebrated the 500th anniversary of Columbus’s arrival in the New World (a year late). This example was distributed as a promotional pamphlet by the Pennsylvania Railroad, “The Standard Railroad of America.”
The company’s exhibit and bureau of information are identified with the iconic logo – one building among the many dozens labeled within the map. The verso contains a detailed description of the pavilion’s contents, which include a 33′ long map that shows the position of each train along the Pennsy lines at a certain time.
