Description
This charming and uncommon bird’s-eye perspective shows a large area in northeastern Montana around the future site of the Fort Peck Dam and Reservoir (then, under construction). Work on the massive earthfill dam began in 1933 and would ultimately be completed in 1940, offering an important economic boost to the region. Industries, irrigation districts, transportation routes, local attractions, and recreational opportunities are highlighted – something to attract everyone!
The view is unattributed, but it was compiled and published around 1936 by the Chamber of Commerce of Glasgow, the self-described “Metropolis of Northeastern Montana, Key City and Commercial Headquarters of this Great Project.” Text and photographs on the verso, including a panoramic view of the half-mile-wide base, describe the ongoing construction.
