Description

Before Fidel Castro’s rise to power in 1959, the governments and people of Cuba and the United States shared a close connection. Their economies were intertwined (primarily through U.S. corporations) and famous Americans like Ernest Hemingway considered the island a tropical paradise with freely flowing drinks and beautiful women. This map reflects that era of amity, showing prominently the locations of the Tropicana night club and Trocadero Distillery, in addition to profile views of several buildings of importance in the Cuban capital. Stadiums, parks, historical sites, airports and race tracks are all shown and give the city an especially cosmopolitan vibe.

An index to locations of interest is available on the right, and includes locations of government buildings, clubs, hospitals, and hotels. The Hotel Nacional, the location of the infamous Havana Conference between Cosa Nostra and the Mafia in 1946, can be found along the northern coast of the city on the right side of the page.
