Description
This attractive and fun-filled poster map of Palo Alto, California, presents the city with northeast at the top of the sheet, so that the bright blue waters of San Francisco Bay fill in the background. Somewhat oddly, the title cartouche blocks out a significant part of the local real estate! The rest of the image is occupied by dozens of carefully illustrated storefronts and buildings, depicted in the exaggerated commercialized fashion popularized during the 1980s and 1990s.
The sheet captures a vibrant small business economy, with a variety of retailers, service providers, restaurants, etc. Caricatured portraits of owners and personalized signs/phone numbers add a delightful touch. Other features of interest include a portion of Stanford University, the San Francisco skyline, and additional ‘aerial advertisements.’
