Description

This interesting pictorial relief map of the Holy Land was designed and edited by G. Frederick Owen of the American School of Oriental Research, a non-profit organization founded in 1900 and focused on studying the history of the Near East. Publishing was provided by Winnfield House of Colorado Springs, with distribution by the Lutheran Brotherhood of Minnesota.

Toponyms identify a variety of settlements, geographic features, historic sites, and more, many of which relate directly to the Old Testament of the Bible.  The transportation network and political boundaries are more modern, with the latter reflecting the 1967 partitioning of Palestine. A ‘ghost’ impression of a plane along the upper horizon has been carefully edited out during production, though it wouldn’t necessarily look out of place compared to the large luxury cruise ship in the Eastern Mediterranean!
