Description
This eye-catching map of Texas’ Padre Island was designed by Ross Smiley and published by the Great Western Investment Corporation in 1968. As a prominent statewide real estate firm, Great Western hoped to encourage tourism and property ownership during a period of increasing development on the island.
Numerous locations of interest including surfing spots, geographic features, and shipwrecks are labeled throughout the image. Sites of reported treasure are naturally marked with a red cross. The route of the Intercoastal Waterway parallels much of the 113-mile-long island and colorfully illustrated scenes highlight local recreation and fauna.
