Pacific Stars and Stripes Map of the War [Korea]

Major events in the Korean War shortly before the armistice.

This eye-catching topographic map of Korea and southern Manchuria was published in 1953 by Pacific Stars & Stripes to provide a summary of the Korean War up to March 19 of that year. Twenty-five significant events and locations are noted throughout the primary image, including the capture of Pyongyang (Oct. 1950), the POW camp on Koje Island, MIG Alley, and aerial attacks on Sui-ho dam.

A smaller map, immediately below, shows the area along the 38th parallel and identifies nine additional places of interest. The border is comprised of flags of participating members of the United Nations and the insignia of the U.S. military forces engaged in the campaign.

The map was printed in Tokyo by Kyoya Company and includes the original mailing tube, addressed from a Captain in the 30th Bomber Squadron while stationed in Okinawa. The decorated Air Force unit operated some of the first B-29s to see military action during the Korean War.
