Description

This likely one-of-a-kind manuscript plat map was drawn by surveyor Charles D. Bishop and is dated July 21st, 1888 adjacent to his signature in the lower right corner. The image, created at a large scale of 100′ to 1″, shows numerous lots adjacent to Euclid Avenue that comprised P.H. Babcock’s Subdivision in eastern Cleveland.

Most parcels, numbered 1-46, appear unsold, but there is a large tract owned by architect Charles Babcock. A fine residence would later be built on the site in 1894.

Several stones, used as surveyors’ markers, are noted on the far right side. Euclid Avenue remains a major thoroughfare across the city, but Bolton Avenue has since been renamed to E. 89th St. and Brookfield Street to E. 87th. St. Today, the area is occupied by elements of the Main Campus of the Cleveland Clinic.
