Description
This whimsical map of Baltimore was illustrated by prominent newspaper cartoonist Richard Yardley. It was issued in 1947 to promote the Oriole Cafeteria’s three locations citywide. Each is prominently noted amid a myriad of illustrated vignettes that showcase Baltimore’s history, culture, and industry.
Figures of all types (some, unfortunately, stereotypical) are shown in a variety of amusing scenes around popular locations like Navy Stadium, Johns Hopkins Hospital, Druid Hill Park, and more. The bountiful repast available at Oriole Cafeterias is shown in the lower left, surrounding a racist caricature of the chef (possibly to reflect ‘authentic’ southern cooking).

Condition Description: Color printed map brochure with moderate wear, professionally repaired using archival tape. Former splits along folds and small spots of abrasions on the verso, with a small patched hole (about the size of a pencil eraser) visible just below the Pratt Library in the center left. About good condition overall.
