Description

This antique copperplate engraved map was originally published in Paris in 1787 as part of Rigobert Bonne’s Atlas Encyclopedique. The image presents an interesting cartographic synthesis, using contemporary sources to map the world as it was known to Classical sources. Latin toponyms show highlight the geographic knowledge of Roman and Greek scholars, rediscovered during the Renaissance and re-interpreted during the Enlightenment.
