Pictorial panorama of Southern California from the early 1950’s.

Description
The legendary density of Southern California is nowhere to be seen on this idyllic view of the Pacific Coast between Seal Beach and San Clemente and inland as far as the Peninsular Ranges. In its place, illustrations of major landmarks, orange groves, and historic sites are labeled between a simple transportation network of state highways.
Recreational opportunities and local amusements are also emphasized with small vignettes throughout. The verso includes a list of ‘points of interest in romantic Orange County’ as well as the addresses of the various Chamber of Commerce headquarters.
The map was published in 1953 to celebrate the Boy Scout National Jamboree held that year in Irvine Ranch. Over 50,000 scouts attended the event and were housed in a temporary tent city specially constructed by the Irvine Company.
