Operations of the Timberwolf Division in Europe – Sept 44 – May 45

“Nothing in Hell must stop the Timberwolves!”

This straightforward celebration of the 104th Infantry ‘Timberwolf’ Division was published shortly after V-E Day in 1945. An unusual base map (note the stars and moon in the border) provides a simple overview of northern Europe, identifying the unit’s approximate route with red lines. Major campaigns and actions are dated and named in the accompanying text boxes, summarizing 195 consecutive days in front-line combat (and then some).

During this period, the division suffered nearly 5,000 casualties in notable engagements like the liberation of the Netherlands, capturing Cologne, and freeing a concentration camp near Nordhausen. Names of commanding officers, attached units, and special staff are provided around the edges of the sheet.

The map is uncommon on the market and noted only once in WorldCat as of June 2024, at Texas A&M University. They list the publisher as the 663rd Engineer Topographic Company. OCLC# 1367363244
