Description
This charming pictorial map of San Francisco was drawn by Gus Schneider and published around 1945 by the U.S. Navy Welfare Office of the 12th Naval District. It was designed and distributed as an informational tool for servicemen and women on leave.
A carefully curated selection of illustrated vignettes highlights the various points of interest, recreational opportunities, and military facilities across the Bay Area. Elements of humor and whimsy are injected throughout, such as Seals Stadium (quite literally) and the diminutive Berkeley Yacht Harbor. The bottom of the sheet lists the various amenities, accommodations, activities, and supporting organizations in further detail.
