Description

“In every troubled news-corner of the globe are one or more of the 300 special correspondents who work for TIME, LIFE, and FORTUNE. In the past twelve months alone, their assignments carried them the 1,505,000 you see plotted on this map.”

This world map on a polar projection was designed by the talented Richard Edes Harrison and published in 1942 by TIME, Inc. It highlights the extensive travel performed by journalists working for Henry Luce’s media conglomerate. Bright red routes showcase perilous journeys to nearly every corner of the globe, though the emphasis on the European and North Pacific theaters is obvious based on the number of trips taken. Accompanying text assures the audience “this is not a map of adventure. Rather it is an attempt to visualize a hardworking, world-wide research organization – the News and Picture Bureau of TIME, LIFE, and FORTUNE.”
