Description

This scarce broadsheet functioned as the Christmas, 1941 edition of the regularly issued newsletter of the First Armored Division. Just a few weeks prior to printing, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and thrust the United States into war. A normally cheerful celebration of the holidays has been replaced by ominous foreshadowing as deployment to Europe or the Pacific loomed.

Serious entries such as a form letter to Mom and Pop and quotes from the Commanding General (Bruce Magruder, at the time) are shown alongside more humorous cartoons and ‘Biv-Wackies.’ (e.g. – Who’s hibernating now, the Russian Bear or the would-be bear chasers.”)

Edited by Privates George Yanko, Jimmy Cowen, Bob Clark, and Willis Van Sickle, all of G-2 Section of the First Armored Division. Printed by the Division Drafting Section, the 18th Engineer Brigade. As of April 2024, unlisted in WorldCat or other online repositories. This is the only example I have seen on the market.
