Description
According to text on the interior of the brochure, Walt Disney described his new entertainment wonderland as “a fabulous playground – something of a fair, a city from the Arabian Knights, a metropolis of the future, a showplace of magic and living facts, a place for people to find happiness and knowledge.”
Disneyland opened in Anaheim, California to critical acclaim in July of 1955, the same year this informational brochure was issued by the Richfield Oil Company.
The main image shows the primary connecting routes in a large area around the park and includes text-based directions. The verso presents a broader view of Southern California with the aforementioned map area highlighted in green. Major thoroughfares are again highlighted across the region, and advertisements for Richfield Oil remind the audience “don’t take a chance on running out of gasoline in heavy traffic” – some things never change!
