Description

“Experienced travelers have pronounced the Inn the best and most modern hotel on the highway between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.” – verso.

This charming little promotional piece was published in the early 1920s by The H.M. Gousha Company of Chicago to advertise the luxurious accommodations available at the Fort Bedford Inn. Located in Bedford, PA, just a mile south of the famous Lincoln Highway, the modern brick building (constructed c. 1915) promises comfortable beds, 24-hr dining services, electric lights, and hot running water for all patrons.

The convenient positioning, about halfway between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, is emphasized in the accompanying road map of the Lincoln Highway (from New York to Chicago). Distances between points are noted, with a convenient mileage table in the lower right. The Horse Shoe Trail, a lesser-known route, is also mentioned and signed throughout the image.
