Description

Laid down in 1928 for the Norddeutscher Lloyd Line, the S.S. Bremen and her sister ship Europa were among the fastest and most modern transatlantic steamships in the world at the time of their construction. This deck plan shows the various amenities and accommodations for third-class travelers aboard the Bremen as of April, 1936.

Text proclaims that all rooms are supplied with fresh air and both hot and cold running water – no small luxury – though the number of baths remains relatively limited. Other perks include a gymnasium, children’s room, coffee-shop, and a social hall.

Also included with the deck plan is a German-language map of a 1930 Atlantic Crossing of the Europa between Cherbourg and New York. A mere five days were needed to make the 3,000+ nautical mile trip! Interesting relics from the golden era of trans-Atlantic luxury steamers.
