Description

This interesting piece of wartime homefront amusement was published around 1942 by Thompson Products, Inc. of Cleveland. A double-sided puzzle of approximately 150 pieces was designed for use as a visual aid in identifying Allied planes, as well as a geographic reference with a brightly colored political map on the verso.

One side of the puzzle displays an illustration designed by noted commercial aviation artist Charles Herman Hubbell that depicts a North American O-48 soaring over Camp Perry in Ohio. This specific model of aircraft never existed – the publishers must have been referencing the O-47, a largely obsolete observation plane that saw limited action in WWII. The opposite side presents a detailed map of the Eastern Hemisphere that includes several theaters of war (Europe, North Africa, and the Eastern Front).
