Description

This light-hearted greeting card intended for a newlywed couple claims to offer a road map to the Land of Dreams Come True. It begins with ‘Lots and Lots of Happiness’ at the Love Match Factory and there is no apparent end – probably a deliberate metaphor.

Detours include Dr. Stork’s Office, the Castel of the Green Eyed Monster, and the Mothers-in-Law Retreat. Contemporary stereotypical views, then widely accepted by a (predominantly white) consumer audience, are reflected with the caricatured African-American laundress and the ‘Cooking School for Brides.’

Difficult to date, but probably mid-century based on the style. Personal transportation was rapidly shifting from railroads to automobiles, and the ‘road map’ was quickly become ubiquitous in popular culture. Published by Hampton, later to become Hampton Art.
