Description
Maps of the New York City public transportation systems have undergone significant changes during the 20th century. This example, issued in 1985 by the New York City Transit Authority, reflects the 1979 redesign by John Tauranac and Michael Hertz. It was an update (and, in my opinion, an improvement) on the controversial, diagrammatic style introduced by Massimo Vignelli in 1972. The same year as printing also saw the elimination of double-lettered routes, requiring further changes to the network (and map).
