Description
The emphasis is on new, with this New Map of Tokyo, published locally in 1953 (28th year of Showa) by the Japanese Commerce Publishing House. The city suffered tremendous damage less during World War II, less than a decade prior, and reconstruction efforts were rapidly escalating following the end of the official American occupation in 1952.
The image shows locations of interest, transportation routes, and gardens. Notable landmarks are individually illustrated and numbered, with descriptions of each found on the verso. It also contains a transportation map of the Greater Tokyo Metropolitan area, as well as several inset plans of local neighborhoods.
