Description

This detailed survey covers the course of the Hudson River between the New York state line and Staten Island in New York Harbor. Emphasis is given to the proposed improvements along the New Jerseys shoreline in Hudson and Bergen Counties, which include thousands of tons of solid fill, several new piers and landings, and more. Major property owners, transportation operators, and geographic features are also labeled throughout.

The updates coincided with a wave of expansion and development across the region in the second half of the 19th and early 20th century, as the port of New York became increasingly popular for freight and passenger traffic, especially among German immigrants.

Designed by R.C. Bacot, Engineer of the Riparian Commission of the State of New Jersey, and published in 1873.
