Major bird migration patterns in the Western Hemisphere.

This map shows six of the flyways birds use to move from one living place to another. Birds use many flyways going from east to west, and north to south. We couldn’t show them all. – Text, lower left. This colorful, if somewhat overly simplified, map shows six primary pathways taken across the Western Hemisphere by many migratory birds. Full-color illustrations of over a dozen species correspond to one or more of the six generalized north/south routes.

Published around 1960 by C.S. Hammond & Company, in conjunction with American Educational Publications and My Weekly Reader. A letter from the Editor-in-Chief (and founder), Eleanor M. Johnson, can be read in the lower left. Johnson (1892 – 1987), a graduate of the University of Chicago and Columbia University, was an influential American educator and editor of My Weekly Reader for nearly 3 decades.
