Description

This fascinating collection of three maps of the United Kingdom was published in the late 1920s or early 1930s by Mitchells & Butler Limited to promote both their beer (brewed in Birmingham) and managed pub locations across the country. From text on the back panel;

“In the booklet you will see a list of the Principal Towns with distances from Birmingham, together with the names of some of the main Service Garages. Lists are also included of some of the Houses where “Good Honest Beer” is obtainable and a star by the name of a house denotes that a substantial meal can also be obtained if required.

All these houses can readily be located on Reference to Map No. 1. For the Motorist journeying further afield we hope that Map No. 2 will prove helpful in deciding his route. And for the benefit of those visiting Birmingham we have compiled Map No. 3 showing Birmingham and its surrounding districts on a much larger scale.”

Map No. 1 Showing Principal Roads in Centre of England and Wales. Brightly colored sheet measuring approximately 29.5″ X 21.25″ and showing moderate wear along fold lines and the outer edges. Prominently features the beer logo in the upper right.

Map No. 2 Showing Principal Main Roads of England, Scotland and Wales. Two-toned map (red and black) of the road network across the United Kingdom. Measures approximately 30.5″ x 21.25″ and shows moderate wear and staining in the upper left where affixed to the covers.

Map No. 3 Showing Principal Main and Secondary Roads of Birmingham and District. Simple red and black street plan of the greater Birmingham area that lists pubs available in each neighborhood. Very good condition and measures approximately 19″ x 19″.
