Description

This lovely pictorial view of Florence was distributed in the 1950s to guests of the Savoy Hotel, which remains one of the most luxurious accommodations in the ancient Italian city. The colorful aerial perspective illustrates, but does not label, many iconic churches, historic monuments, museums, art galleries, and public buildings. The Cathedral, Ponte Vecchio, Palazzo Medici, Baptistery of San Giovanni, and Uffizi are among the iconic structures presented. Contemporary advertisements, mostly aimed at an English-speaking tourist audience, are shown on the border. Further advertisements can be found on the verso, along with a road map of Italy and distance tables.

The view was designed by S. Calvino and copywritten by V. Fattorusso. The road map is dated 1953 and copywritten by “O.P.E.”. Published in Florence.
