This colorful map of the region around Reims was published by Louis Larmat in 1944. The fact that an atlas dedicated to viticulture was able to be produced in Paris under wartime occupation is a testament to how seriously the French take their wine! The image captures the transportation network and urban development in the region well, but the true emphasis is on the local vineyards in operation.
Areas are colored according to the percentage of wines classified as ‘cru.’ The higher the better, with pink as the best (80-88%). An inset map of the Villedommange, Sacy, and Ecueil communes, in which some of the region’s wines are produced, is provided in the upper right.
