$40.00
A 19th century view of the Milwaukee River from Picturesque America.

Description
One can almost hear the sounds depicted on this finely engraved print showing a scene on the busy Milwaukee River in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A crowded wharf on the right is filled with passengers and farmers preparing their goods for loading aboard the next ship. The river is occupied by two rowing crews and a small tugboat chugging along. Apart from a trail of black smoke rising in the background, the ubiquitous pollution experienced by most urban waterfronts during the period is conspicuously absent.
The view was engraved after artwork by the talented Alfred Waud and published by D. Appleton & Company in New York around 1874 as part of Picturesque America.
