Metabolic Map

The 4th edition of Sumitomo’s map of the metabolic pathways.

This incredibly complicated diagram charts the metabolic pathways, or the various chemical reactions that occur within a cell and provide the building blocks of life on Earth.

Complex biological processes are shown as an interconnected flow chart comprised of reactants and products and organized by metabolic cycles. A key in the upper left provides some insights into the confusing image, but the poster was clearly designed for an audience with a background in biochemistry.

Compiled by Professor T. Miura and Dr. T. Tetsuka, both of Chiba University. Published in Osaka by Sumitomo Chemical Company, Ltd. in 1967 as the 4th edition of the Metabolic Map.
