Description

This detailed cutaway diagram highlights the various components of the Martin M-130, a flying boat designed and built in 1935 by the Glenn L. Martin Company for Pan-American Airways and known colloquially as a “China Clipper”. It was theoretically created for use as a hybrid trans-Pacific mail/passenger carrier, but all three examples constructed experienced fatal crashes by 1945.

The diagram was illustrated by Matthew Greene and published in a 1936 issue of Fortune Magazine.
