Description
This double-sided sheet presents a faithful 20th-century reproduction of Martin Behaim’s important terrestrial globe, first constructed in 1492. It uses vibrant color to highlight the extent of contemporary geographic knowledge shortly before the voyages of Columbus would radically change maps forever. Accompanying insets offer further details on specific locations like the Azores, Egypt, Japan, and Sri Lanka. The three gores focusing on the continent of Africa are recreated on a larger scale on the verso. The reproduction was issued in 1960 as a holiday gift by Rand McNally & Co.
