Description

This is an uncommon example of issue Number 338 of the Marine Magazine, published in Istanbul by Turkey’s Marine Press in 1935. It was designed as a supplement to a previous edition that discussed in detail the naval combat of the Battle of the Skagerrak, more commonly known to the Allied powers as the Battle of Jutland.

The paper wrappers contain 22 folding maps, plans, and charts that outline ship dispositions, weather effects, and other details of the multi-day engagement that involved approximately 250 ships and around 100,000 sailors.

The Battle of Jutland was the only time that the vaunted dreadnought-class battleships clashed at sea during World War I. Both sides claimed victory, but the British likely got the upper hand as they retained control of the shipping lanes in the North Atlantic and thus were able to implement a naval blockade against Germany.
