Description
This impressive compilation of maps, charts, and city plans was published as a Tribune Extra by the Chicago Tribune Educational Services Department in 1968. In a mere 32 pages, it attempts to outline much of 20th century world history and geopolitics, starting with North Michigan Avenue (One of the World’s great streets grows even greater) and the city of Chicago before expanding to encompass each continent and the world.
Thematic maps by different staff artists highlight a variety of demographics like poverty, race, population, and literacy, while political maps showcase the United Nations, Organization of American States, and Peace Corps. The Vietnam War is a major theme, with several sheets dedicated to the history, military bases, etc. U.S. global military commitments, divided Germany, Communist China, and the ‘Troubled’ Middle East, are all also explored cartographically.
