Description

Though best known for the military academy established there in 1802, it is not necessarily the focus of this map of West Point, New York. The primary campus buildings are illustrated, but not labeled, and significantly more emphasis is given to recreational opportunities in the surrounding area.

Charming illustrations show figures playing polo, cruising the Hudson River, and filling up at the local service station. Even the martial elements such as target practice and marching are showing with a lighthearted attitude.

A small inset map in the lower right shows Popolopen and its eponymous gorge, creek, and mountain – the ‘Torne.’ Drawn by L.E. Senick and published in 1928.
