Description

This unusual blueprint-style map shows the land claims of the Mexia-Groesbeck Oil Field, located about 80 miles south of Dallas, Texas and one of many rich fields comprising the Lulig-Mexia-Talco fault zone. Producing gas wells and dry holes are noted throughout, according to the legend in the upper left. Contour lines, oil infrastructure, transportation routes, and local businesses are also labeled.

The map was published by the Knowles Engineering Company and is advertised as a re-issue of an ‘out of stock government map.’ This refers to the original survey, designed and produced by the U.S.G.S. in 1915 using a base map provided by the Gulf Petroleum Company.
