Map of the County of Livingston

First edition of David Burr’s map of Livingston County, New York.

This beautiful antique map of Livingston County, New York uses vibrant original hand color to distinguish the various townships across the county. Within each, numerous plots are subdivided and often labeled by their respective owners, organizers, or title holders. Various locations of interest are labeled throughout, including settlements, geographic features, and canal routes. Flour mills, saw mills, factories, churches, and forges are also noted according to the legend in the upper left.

The map was drawn by David Burr in 1829 and engraved by Rowdon, Clark & Company of Albany. Published in a first edition of Burr’s An atlas of the State of New York – the 2nd atlas published in American during the 19th century to focus on only one state (after Mill’s 1825 Atlas of South Carolina).
