Description
This detailed street plan of Newark, Ohio was issued at a scale of approximately 1″ to 1000′ and was originally published anonymously in the late 1930’s. Apart from individually labeling most streets and roads, the image identifies local points of interest, prominent businesses, parks, cemeteries and important geographic features.
This particular example was customized for use in the Central Engineering Department of the Pennsylvania Railroad and has been dissected and mounted on linen for preservation and ease of storage. Bright color has been applied by hand to denote property and track ownership of the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, outlined in the custom key below the title block. Joint trackage between the two companies is also shown.

Condition Description: Dissected into 18 panels and mounted on linen with black leather covers. Two panels exhibit moderate discoloration from the adhesive used to affix the covers to the verso. Otherwise there is minor offsetting and faint wear consistent with age. Overall, the map is in very good condition given its age and use.
