Description

This detailed municipal plan of Marion, Ohio was originally drawn by city engineer Tom Cathers in 1940. Streets, parks, public buildings and prominent local industries are all individually labeled and faint yellow has been applied to highlight the city limits.

This particular version of the map was customized for use in the Central Engineering Department of the Pennsylvania Railroad, and has been dissected and mounted on linen for preservation and convenient storage. Bright color has been applied by hand to denote property and track ownership throughout the city, with a custom legend added to the lower right to identify the four primary local operators; The New York Central, Pennsylvania, Chesapeake & Ohio and Erie Railroads.
