In the first quarter of the 20th century, the city of Evanston’s population grew by over 70%, prompted by transit access to Chicago and a local real estate boom. This map of the northern suburb, issued shortly after World War II, shows the recent period of expansion with transportation routes, numerous schools, and parks. The bottom of the sheet contains a comprehensive street index, while an official map of the North Shore suburbs is included on the inside of the front cover.
The verso of the map contains a simple pictorial map of Northwestern University along the shore of Lake Michigan. Buildings are individually illustrated and labeled with an accompanying list of men’s and women’s residences on campus.
