Description

This incredibly detailed case map of New York’s Adirondack Forest was issued by the state’s Fisheries, Game, and Forest Commission in 1898, only six years after the park was established. It was designed by engineer and superintendent William Fox and printed in Albany by Wynkoop Hallenbeck Crawford Co. The map uses vibrant color to distinguish the boundaries of the park (blue), towns (purple) and counties (brown), as well as property ownership throughout the region – state lands or forest preserve (orange), lands of the Forest Preserve Board (yellow), and land under joint state ownership (pink). Geographic features, transportation routes, and settlements are labeled throughout the region. A wealth of property details are also transmitted through the outlines of individual sections and tracts, many of which name the owner. https://digitalcollections.nypl.org/items/68c916a0-ce82-0133-631e-00505686a51c

Sheet Width (in): See Description

Sheet Height (in): See Description

Condition: C-

Condition Description: This pair of maps has seen better days. Two sheets, each measuring approximately 59" x 39.75", extracted from their original green cloth case with gilt embossed title (included). The lower sheet is missing about 20% of the image from the upper left corner while most of the image on both sheets is affected by heavy creasing, staining, and tears. More minor image loss is present in several other areas. Probably less than fair condition, but still a neat map for the right person.
