Description

“As good land, and will yield as much per acre, as southern Minnesota land bringing four times the prices. These will soon bring as much.” – Text, front cover.

This inviting real estate map of Roseau County, Minnesota, highlights the area’s agricultural productivity to encourage emigration (and investment) to the far north of the state. Over 30,000 acres are offered for sale by H.M. Olson of Minneapolis, marked just east of the county seat at Roseau. The image labels creameries, churches, school houses, and important infrastructure (ditches, railroads, etc.) – all features emblematic of a modern society.

The Lake of the Woods is noted in the upper right, though there is no mention that the northern boundary is international. The map was drafted by George T. Hamery and copyrighted in 1907 by John P. Ivers of Roseau, MN. Printed in St. Paul by the Brown Treacy & Sperry Company.
