Description

This interesting double sided map was published in Chicago by Rand McNally around 1880 to promote the sales of G.G. Green. According to text below his portrait on the New York side, he was the manufacturer and owner of the business, while his father, L.M. Green, possessed the copyrights.

Presumably he was referencing Boschee’s German Syrup, Green’s August Flower, and Green’s Ague Conqueror – three medicines that are listed within the image. Contemporary advertisements laud that August Flower can be used for dyspepsia and indigestion, while Boschee’s German Syrup “has the largest sales of any medicine in the world” and can cure “all diseases of the throats and lungs” (including tuberculosis, wow!).

A view in the upper right presumably shows the doctor’s fine home while the lower left presents the company’s new factory – both emblematic of it’s success and apparently the efficacy of the treatment. The verso shows a map of the Pacific Territories west of Kansas City.
