Description
This lovely map of Memphis, Tennessee was originally designed by City Engineer William B. Fowler in 1925, with a table of semi-annual revisions noting this example to be from the following year. The engraver, C.C. Cagle, did an excellent job of carefully labeling streets, street numbers, railroad infrastructure (underpasses and viaducts, in particular), geographic features, and important buildings. Printed color highlights park space (including fairgrounds, country clubs, and cemeteries) in green, while the street railway lines are noted in red. Interestingly, the Jewish Cemetery is not colored – perhaps reflecting its limited access to the public.
