Description
“IT SHOWS ALL THE MAIN HIGHWAYS, ROADS, AND POINTS OF INTEREST IN THE COLORADO DESERT OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. THIS INCLUDES THE MARVELOUS IMPERIAL AND COACHELLA VALLEYS, THE MYSTERIOUS SALTON SEA, THE UNIQUE AND FASCINATING JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL MONUMENT AND ALL OF THE ADJACENT TERRITORY INCLUDING THE NEW PALM SPRINGS AERIAL TRAMWAY.” – Text, envelope.
This somewhat amateurish map of southern California presents a largely desert area around the Salton Sea. Squiggled lines approximate topography amid a straightforward overview that labels regional transportation routes, locations of interest, and notable geographic features.
Copyrighted in 1962 by Collis H. Steere of Palm Springs, California. The accompanying envelope includes suggestions for enjoying the area and notes that the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is now completed, indicating a date of issue of 1963.
